Why is everyone going absolutely crazy over these really shiny legs? Are these legs shiny and oily or are they covered in white paint? The picture above is presenting an optical illusion similar to the photo of the black and blue dress that the internet went insane over in the past. Here’s a picture to remind you of that internet insanity. Ambiguity contributes to the mass confusion over these optical illusions.
Everyone uses prior experiences and information to produce interpretations about what he or she sees. Most of the time when someone sees a pair of shiny legs, the legs are shiny from being wet or from being covered in oil. However, why would someone cover their legs in so much oil? It is not common to see a pair of legs covered in paint. If it is the first time you are seeing a pair of legs covered in paint, it is likely that you will see shiny legs at first and call it a day. Once staring at the photo after learning that the white marks are in fact paint, most people can search the photo and see how the white paint was carefully drawn on to her legs.
The person who took the photo of the legs has confirmed that the legs are in fact covered in paint. Also, the markers and paint used to make the white marks on her legs are visible in the right side of the photo.
Apparently, something called, “sensory cues,” is the reason some people can only see the white paint after first seeing shiny legs. After first looking at the picture, the viewer is conscious of the fact that he or she is looking for discrepancies in the image. The white lines start to look more chalky and the legs look less shiny. While the internet went crazy, the “leg model” was pissed that she was not included in the fun.
