7 Desserts You Can Make In A Microwave

Microwaves don’t have to be reserved for just reheating leftovers. For the truly inventive (and by inventive, we mostly mean lazy), microwaves can be used for all kinds of creative culinary endeavours — even desserts. Some microwave desserts are perfect for when you’re spending the night in and just feel like a quick, single-serve sweet fix that doesn’t involve preheating your oven and digging out your electric mixer; others are  —believe it or not— elegant enough to serve up to your significant other post-romantic dinner.

And so without further ado, here are 7 of the best desserts you can whip up using your microwave.

Dark Chocolate Fondue

It doesn’t get much simpler than this. To create an utterly delicious dessert, all you need is a bowl, a spoon, microwave, and a couple of simple ingredients.

The fondue itself is super-fast and easy to make, and you can use pretty much any type of chocolate you desire. Dark chocolate works brilliantly if you want your fondue to be a little less indulgent while still satisfying your sweet tooth. As for what to dip into the fondue, that’s entirely up to your taste. Fresh fruit like juicy red strawberries, or sliced banana, pineapple or melon will always work a treat. If you want to really amp up the indulgence levels, opt for marshmallows or wafer biscuits.

To make the fondue, break a block of good quality dark chocolate into pieces. For 1 cup of chocolate, use 3/4 cup fresh cream, adding both ingredients into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave until the chocolate melts (usually about 2 minutes) then remove the bowl and stir gently into a smooth fondue. Serve immediately.

For a dairy-free alternative to cream, use full-fat canned coconut milk.
